Capacity

The WC88 wood chipper is designed to operate on tractors with 35-100+ hp, making it a versatile and powerful option for acreage owners in Australia. Its large 23” x 27” (59cm x 69cm) infeed hopper opening gradually tapers down to an 8” x 8” (20cm x 20cm) opening where the 8.25” (21cm) diameter hydraulically driven infeed roller grabs the branches and effortlessly feeds them through the chipper. Whether you’re dealing with small branches as thin as ¼” (6mm) diameter or larger ones up to 8” (20cm) diameter, the WC88 can handle it all. However, for chipping full 8” (20cm) diameter logs, tractors with over 75hp are recommended to ensure optimal performance

Hydraulic Infeed System

The WC88 wood chipper pulls branches into its system through a sizeable 8.25-inch (21cm) diameter infeed roller that is powered by its own self-contained hydraulic system. This roller can be adjusted in both direction and speed, allowing for the effortless feeding of branches of all shapes and sizes. The hydraulic pump is directly connected to the lower shaft, removing the concern of worn or loosened drive belts. Furthermore, the down pressure on the roller can be easily adjusted using two large springs, ensuring that it grasps and draws in branches without the need for manual intervention.

Flywheel

Featuring a dynamically balanced 24″ (61cm) diameter and 1″ (25mm) thick solid steel flywheel, the WC88 wood chipper is a robust and reliable machine for chipping hardwood from your Australian forest. The flywheel runs on a sturdy 2″ (50mm) diameter shaft and is supported by two industrial-grade and greaseable flanged bearings, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. The flywheel is equipped with four CNC-machined pockets that securely hold the reversible blades in place. Additionally, the flywheel boasts four large fan blade paddles that spin at a speed of approx. 1,100 rpm (540rpm pto speed), ensuring maximum airflow and efficient chipping performance.

Drive Belt System

The WC88 wood chipper is designed with user convenience in mind. The drive belt system is protected by a sturdy ¼” (6mm) thick steel guard that can be easily rotated forward to access the drive system. To access the drive system, simply pull the pin at the top, and the guard will fold forward, providing quick and complete access to the entire drive system. The chipper comes with a PTO shaft that connects from your tractor to the chipper’s lower 2″ (50mm) shaft. Four heavy-duty cogged BX series power drive belts run up to the flywheel main shaft and are standard off-the-shelf replacement parts. These belts are automatically kept in proper tension via the self-tensioning system increasing belt life, reduces belt slippage, and saves the user from manually adjusting belt tension. Changing belts is also made easy as the tensioning system can easily be pulled back out of the way, allowing for quick belt changes when required.

Chipper Blades

Equipped with four high-quality, hardened steel reversible chipper blades, the WC88 wood chipper is an efficient and cost-effective solution for chipping hardwood form your forest in Australia. The blades are strategically placed 90 degrees apart and are offset from each other, allowing for two cutting edges on one blade. Each blade is securely held onto the flywheel with two countersunk M10 bolts and locking nuts. The WC88 chipper features a clamshell flywheel housing design, allowing for quick and easy blade changes. To replace a blade, simply undo one bolt and the upper flywheel housing will rotate open, providing full access to the flywheel and chipper blades. This design ensures that blade rotation and change can be made quickly and with minimal effort.

Folding Infeed Chute

The WC88 wood chipper is designed with an infeed chute that features a large 24” x 28” (61 cm x 71 cm) opening, allowing for easy feeding of branches with multiple limbs. Additionally, the infeed chute can be folded up, reducing the footprint of the chipper during storage or transport. This feature ensures that the WC88 chipper can be conveniently stored in a smaller space when not in use, without compromising its performance or functionality. The folding infeed chute also makes the chipper easier to transport, allowing for hassle-free transportation to different locations as needed..

Infeed Opening

The flywheel housing of the WC88 wood chipper is designed with a large 8” x 8” (20cm x 20cm) square opening, which makes it easy to accept branches with several limbs. As a result, there is less need to trim branches down before feeding them into the chipper, reducing the time and effort required for processing. The large opening in the flywheel housing ensures that even larger branches can be chipped without the need for extensive preparation, allowing for efficient and streamlined operation. This feature makes the WC88 chipper a highly versatile tool for processing branches and other woody materials of varying sizes and shapes.

Adjustable Chipper Base

The base of the WC88 wood chipper is constructed using 1/4″ (6mm) thick laser-cut steel plates, providing heavy-duty support. It can be adjusted to accommodate different tractor sizes, with the PTO shaft height ranging from 15-5/8″ to 21-5/8″ (40cm to 55cm) off the ground. To adjust the base, simply attach the chipper to your tractor and lift it up, allowing you to remove the four bolts holding the base to the chipper housing and adjust it to your desired height.

Discharge Chute

The WC88 wood chipper discharge chute is designed to rotate 360 degrees using two handles, allowing the user to direct the wood chips in any direction. It is positioned at a height of 77” (1.95m) off the ground, making it easy to direct the chips into the back of a truck or trailer if desired. At the end of the chute, there is a rotating deflector which can be adjusted to control the location of the wood chips. It can be pointed straight for maximum distance or angled down to deflect the chips directly onto the ground or into a trailer.

PTO Shaft

The WC88 wood chipper comes with a PTO shaft that includes ashear pin.
